01/ who we are
Health Club Marketing Agency Specialists
A health club marketing agency does two jobs at once: it fills a club with the right local members, and it keeps them training — and paying — month after month. That is exactly what we do for gyms, fitness studios and leisure clubs.
Fitness membership lives and dies on retention—filling the funnel is only half the job if members lapse within months.
So we build marketing across the full lifecycle: local acquisition, sign-up conversion, onboarding and long-term engagement.
Our focus is member lifetime value, the metric that actually drives a club’s profitability.
As a membership marketing agency, we treat your members as recurring relationships, not one-off sales.

02/ our focus
Health Club Marketing Agency Services
As a health club marketing agency, we balance acquisition with the retention work that protects your recurring revenue.
The best health club marketing does not just sell joining fees—it builds the habits and engagement that keep members renewing month after month.
We help independent clubs and operators compete with the chains, drawing on our wider work with luxury fitness clubs.
From the first local ad to the ninetieth day of membership, our approach to gym and fitness club marketing is engineered around lifetime value.

Plan the First 90 Days Around Member Use
Use the instructor handover worksheet to make the receiving role explicit. When campaign delivery is the requirement, new member acquisition services should agree that handover before launch; wider capacity or offer changes belong to membership strategy.
Early attendance can help the team spot whether a new member is finding a useful routine. It does not tell you that a particular missed week will lead to cancellation, or that a welcome sequence guarantees a year of membership.
The pattern holds across the wider membership sector too. First-year members renew at a median of just 75% (MGI 2024 Membership Marketing Benchmarking Report), well below the 82% median across all members (MGI 2026).
UK gym data points the same way: in a peer-reviewed study of 1,726 new members at six UK venues, how often and how steadily people attended in their first quarter predicted their fourth (Rand et al., 2020).
An operator-facing vendor puts it more bluntly: one in ten members is gone within ninety days (Xplor Resamania, citing operator reports it does not link).
The published benchmarks, by source type, are on gym membership retention rate.
So we treat onboarding as a marketing channel in its own right: induction journeys that build the training habit, early milestones worth celebrating, and check-ins that catch fading attendance before it becomes a cancellation.
The Health & Fitness Association’s published sales guidance reports a club practitioner’s advice to understand the prospect’s goals and assign responsibility for the handover to fitness staff. It is operational guidance from 2017, not a measured uplift or a current channel benchmark.
Make that handover explicit: record what the member wants help with, agree a suitable first visit, name the person who will welcome them and explain how to book or ask a question. Review visits booked, visits attended and completed joins separately. Use the member onboarding checklist to assign the tasks; adapt it to the club’s actual services.
Put your own numbers into the free membership retention calculator to see what a few points of retention are worth to your club.
For premium operators the stakes are higher again: a lost member costs far more when fees are at the top of the market.
That is why we run a dedicated practice for luxury fitness clubs, and why every plan is grounded in the fundamentals of membership marketing rather than generic local advertising.

05/ ideas
Gym marketing ideas that retain.
The best gym marketing ideas don’t stop at the join button. Each one below earns its place by keeping a member training.
Most gym marketing is aimed at the sign-up, and the market keeps growing: Leisure DB’s 2026 State of the UK Fitness Industry Report counts more than 12 million members and a record share of the population in a gym (Leisure DB).
The evidence on who stays is starker. In a peer-reviewed study of 5,240 new members of one fitness centre (Brazil, one site), most had stopped paying before their third month (Sperandei, Vieira & Reis, 2016). The UK study above shows the same front-loaded curve.
So the ideas that pay are aimed at the first weeks and at the fading member: an induction booked before the first visit, a first-month programme with milestones, a call when attendance drops, a freeze offered before a cancellation, and a referral request timed to a proud moment.
Filter the deck by stage; each card names what it retains through. To see what each lost member costs, run the churn cost calculator.
- Search
Local SEO for the join page
Timetable, prices and parking on the page people land on from a “gym near me” search.
- Before day one
Book the induction at sign-up
The welcome email carries a booked slot with a named coach, not “come in any time”.
- Week one
A first-month programme
Four weeks of sessions with a milestone each week, so a new member knows what going well looks like.
- Weeks two to six
Buddy classes
Put new members into small-group classes together; people come back for people.
- Attendance data
The fading-member call
When visits drop below a member’s own usual, a coach calls within days — a person, not a discount code.
- Progress
Celebrate milestones
Tenth visit, first class series finished, a personal best — marked in the app and at the desk.
- Referral
Ask at the proud moment
Ask for a referral straight after a milestone, and bring the friend in for a joint session.
- Community
A monthly club challenge
A leaderboard and an end date give a lapsing member a reason and a day to come back.
- Before cancelling
Offer a freeze
A pause for injury, travel or a busy month — offered, never used as a barrier to leaving.
- After leaving
Win back at 30 and 90 days
A return offer with no joining fee, and the member’s old programme ready to pick up.
Practitioner ideas, not research findings. Win-back is worth the effort beyond gyms: Recurly’s July 2026 benchmarks (vendor billing data) find nearly one new subscription in four comes from a customer who cancelled before.
New members who stopped paying before their third month (Sperandei et al., 2016) · peer-reviewed, one Brazilian gym, 5,240 members

What churn costs you
£45,000
Revenue lost every year · 150 members · 15% of total
Of this year's £300k member revenue
Cutting churn by just 3 points keeps £9,000 in the bucket every year — usually far cheaper than acquiring the same revenue from scratch.
At 15% churn you are holding members better than the 18% a typical membership organisation loses in a year — worth protecting.
